What does a fulfilled life look like?
I was listening to a successfully entrepreneur who gave up all his wealth to live a “minimalist” life on one of my free days. I was quite curious as to why he chose his new way of life. Apparently, he mentioned that he chased “fulfilment” all his life. To him the promise of fulfilment was always around the corner with the next promotion, the bigger house, better relationship. As he attained these things, he was quite surprised that although he was temporarily happy with these achievements, they did not bring him the deep, lasting fulfilment he had anticipated. So, he was disappointed with that life.
What struck me was that like many of us, he viewed fulfilment as a “goal” rather than as a “State”. Paul the Apostle, made an interesting point in the bible, in Philippians 4:11-13, “ I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances”. He viewed contentment as a state – so he was always content whatever the circumstance.
Let us take one day at a time and be satisfied with each day. So that we can take fulfilment in daily dozes. That way, we do not have to postpone it to the future.
Have a great day ahead.
